Canada Day is the national day of Canada. A federal statutory holiday, it celebrates the anniversary of July 1, 1867, the effective date of the Constitution Act, 1867 (then called the British North America Act, 1867), which united the three separate colonies of the Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single Dominion within the British Empire called Canada. Originally called Dominion Day (French: Le Jour de la Confédération), the holiday was renamed in 1982, the year the Canada Act was passed. Canada Day celebrations take place throughout the country, as well as in various locations around the world, attended by Canadians living abroad.
The Exploits Valley Salmon Festival is an annual festival held in Grand Falls-Windsor of the Exploits Valley, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada that dates back to 1985. Events that are part of the festival include a dance in a stadium and a dinner of Atlantic salmon.
The festival celebrates the various customs, traditions and heritage of the UAE, particularly the palm tree which occupies an eminent position in the authentic Emirati heritage and the collective memory of the Emirati society. The event is an annual heritage event that attracts about 70,000 tourists and visitors from the UAE. The festival also features several competitions with 220 prizes to be won with a total value of more than AED 6 million. The competitions include Mazaynas (beauty competitions) for the best dates, best lemons and best mangoes, as well as the Tradition Market, the Dar Fruits Basket Competition (Fruits of the House), the Best Heritage Model competition, the Model Farm Award, and the activities of the Children’s Village. The Traditional Market, considered as a key part of this special annual event features products reflecting the spirit and the authenticity of the Emirati society. These products are primarily derived from palm trees and dates. The Liwa Date Festival has also a lot to offer to its young visitors to learn about the history of the palm tree and the authenticity of the Emirati heritage. The many exceptional activities include cultural competitions and workshops to draw, paint and educate the children about the benefits of this blessed tree.
George Street Entertainment will celebrate its 35 Anniversary this summer with its Annual Festival being held August 1st – 7th, 2019. This year marks a milestone for the Entertainment District as it celebrates 35 years of festivals and special events. The Annual George Street Festival is a world-renowned event which continues to build on its reputation of providing a unique festival experience for residents and visitors. Known for our support of local, nationals and international artists – this year will continue to reflect our vision to provide a variety of entertainment for all audiences; “Celebrating 35 Years with 35 Bands” throughout the 7-day festival.
The pride and love of Labrador has been celebrated for the past 32 years at our annual Bakeapple Folk Festival. We spend three days and two nights each summer remembering and practicing our unique Labrador traditions through music, dance, crafts, games and food native to the Labrador Straits region.
Arafat Day is the second day of the annual haj (or pilgrimage). The holiday takes place the day before the start of Eid Al Adha. At dawn, Muslim pilgrims make their way from Mina to a nearby hillside called Mount Arafat and a place called the Plain of Arafat. In 2019 Arafat Day is predicted to fall on a Saturday (August 10). However, the date is subject to moon-sighting and could change.
Description: Eid Al Adha translates to the “festival of sacrifice”. The holiday honours Ibrahim and his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail for Allah. Ismail is happy to oblige before Allah sends his angel, Jibra’il, to inform Ibrahim that he has already accepted the sacrifice from his heart. Goats are sacrificed and divided into three parts: one part for the family, one part for relatives, and one part for the poor. The holiday begins on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijja – the last month of the Hijri calendar. In 2019, Eid Al Adha is expected to begin on Sunday, August 11. A three-day holiday for Eid Al Adha, in addition to Arafat Day on Saturday, means a long weekend in August.
Al Hijri is the Islamic New Year. This year, the date expected for this observation corresponding to the Islamic calendar is Saturday, August 31 in 2019. Since the holiday falls on the weekend, residents may get Sunday off. The holiday will be announced closer to the observation.

The Humber Valley Agriculture Fall Fair is an annual fair held in Deer Lake since 1968. It includes a dairy cattle show, local crafts, produce competition and a handicraft competition to name a few things!
Oktoberfest is the world’s largest Volksfest (beer festival and travelling funfair). Held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, it is a 16- to 18-day folk festival running from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modeled after the original Munich event. During the event, large quantities of Oktoberfest Beer are consumed: during the 16-day festival in 2013, for example, 7.7 million litres (66,000 US bbl; 1,700,000 imp gal) were served.
